The staff and GP partners at Deal Tree Health Centre offer heartfelt condolences on the loss of your loved one.
We hope the information provided can offer some support and guidance to you and your family at this time.
If the death is expected, the person’s GP will confirm the death and begin a medical certificate of cause of death (MCCD). A district nurse or out-of-hours doctor can confirm the death, but only a GP at the registered surgery who has seen the person previously can begin the certificate. The Certificate is then passed for independent scrutiny by the medical examiner. If the medical examiner agrees with the cause of the death, the certificate is completed and returned to the Surgery.
If there isn’t a GP who has seen the person previously, or if the medical examiner does not agree a cause of death, the death is then reported to the coroner, this can cause a delay issuing the certificate.
Only when the medical certificate of cause of death (MCCD)is ready, should you contact the registrar’s office to make an appointment to register the death. Please do not book an appointment before being notified that the certificate is ready to collect.
